White homing pigeons, also known as wing point’s doves, are the only relative of dove, which can be trained to find their way home. These birds are very strong flyers, have a well developed homing instinct, and will return to their dovecote. The white dove is not the same bird as the white homing pigeon. They are both white, but the white dove is smaller, does not fly straight for long distances but rather flutters about, and it does not have a highly developed homing instinct. White homing pigeons weigh about one pound and have a wingspan of roughly two feet. To the average person a white homing pigeon can easily be, and often is, mistaken for a white dove.
